People's Palace & Winter Gardens
Glasgow Green

As you can perhaps see the Palace and Gardens are undergoing a major renovation and are currently closed to visitors.

There is little indication of when it will re-open but 2027 or 2028 seem like a good bet.

Glasgow Green is of course open and has some excellent sculptures as well as the Dalton Fountain.

Try to imagine this on a sunny summer's day with an outdoor café, families and couples enjoying the sunshine and parties of schoolchildren learning about Glasgow's wonderful and fascinating past.

It's good, isn't it?

The Dalton Fountain is a spectacular piece of Victorian sculpture and design. Not to the current taste but a fascinating glimpse back to the time of the British Empire.

The contents have been distributed among other city museums during the renovation.

This, as you can see, is the monument to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, held in the city.

The games are coming back in a much reduced form in 2026.

In the foreground the McLennan Arch in front of the High Court, the River Clyde and its city centre bridges on the left, the St Enoch Centre in the middle foreground.

At the top left the sharp-eyed amongst you will see the Kingston Bridge, the Squinty Bridge and even the paddle steamer Waverley at its winter moorings.
