Cairnpapple Hill is was used as a ceremonial and burial site for pretty much all that time from two thousand B.C. up to a thousand years ago.

It's located east of Torpichen, south of Linlithgow and north of Bathgate not far from Beecraigs Country Park. The views, even from ground level, are magnificent.

Open to the public (for a fee) from May to September and otherwise accessible on foot but not, sadly, by anyone who can't climb rough steps and negotiate a muddy path.

The roadside parking for a few cars is over the edge of the hill at the bottom of some steps at the end of the green (muddy) section of path.
