Cairnpapple Hill

Cairnpapple Hill is an ancient monument dating back four thousand years or more and was used as a ceremonial and burial site for pretty much all that time up to a thousand years ago.

It's located east of Torpichen, south of Linlithgow and north of Bathgate not far from Beecraigs Country Park.

Open to the public (for a fee) from May to September and otherwise accessible on foot but not, sadly, by anyone who can't climb rough steps and a muddy path.

It's a burial cairn surrounded by other ancient graves and when open to visitors the interior is accessible.

The views, even from ground level, are magnificent.

This is looking north-east and in this direction the Forth Bridges (all three of them) can be easily seen.

The roadside parking for a few cars is over the edge of the hill at the bottom of some steps at the end of the green (muddy) section of path.
