The last remaining part of the castle of the Black Douglases close to Douglas in South Lanarkshire.

The name comes from the black stripe in their family tartan - there's another branch called the Red Douglases for the same reason.

Both were very powerful families in the Scottish lowlands and have long and fascinating histories, right up to the present day.

The castle and park round it are open to access but are on private land, part of the Douglas estates.
