The Three Heids
Holytown (Eurocentral) by the M8
These are part of a series of artworks designed to brighten up the journey along the M8 between
Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The Three Heids (or Three Heads for non-locals) are based on real people from the Motherwell area and are constructed from steel poles, tubes and rods each set on a shipping container.
The location is the south side of the M8 as it passes Eurocentral just west of Junction 6A.

Two of the heads are male and one is female and the original models are not known.
Thirty-odd feet high and too heavy for it to be of much interest.
Designed by David Mach and built in 1999 or so.

From the back of the westernmost head looking north over the M8.
As you can see they're made from tubes, rods and right-angle steel.
(Suggestions that the people from this area are empty-headed will not be tolerated.)
The construction was carried out by the Motherwell Bridge engineering company.

From above and behind to show their proximity to the road.
Actually, that section is of the A8 running parallel to the M8 for a few hundred yards.

From far across the M8 you can see how they are clearly seen by passing traffic, hopefully not
distracting the drivers too much.
The light was very low and directional so these need to be re-taken in better conditions.
