These are part of a series of artworks designed to brighten up the journey along the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The Three Heids (or Three Heads for non-locals) are based on real people from the Motherwell area and are constructed from steel poles, tubes and rods each set on a shipping container.

(Suggestions that the people from this area are empty-headed will not be tolerated.)

Two of the heads are male and one is female and the original models are not known. Thirty-odd feet high and too heavy for it to be of much interest.

Designed by David Mach and built in 1999 or so, the construction was carried out by the Motherwell Bridge engineering company.
