Irvine Ravenspark

Ravenspark Estate,
in the north of Irvine in North Ayrshire.

The housing estate built entirely within the perimeter of the old Ravenspark Hospital.

Known from its construction in 1858 as Cunninghame Combination Poorhouse and then Cunninghame Home from 1930 until taken over by the NHS around 1948 and named Ravenspark Hospital.

When abandoned it was a popular site for urban explorers, said to be haunted, until it was finally demolished to create space for this new housing.

The only parts remaining of the original building (the remains as seen in the old photo from 1998) are the bell from the roof and the arch over the entrance gate between the cottages. The main building was finally demolished in 2010. There is no on-site identification of the bell or arch.

The open space in the north of the estate is a garden of remembrance in tribute to those who died in the workhouse prior to the early 1900s and were buried in unmarked graves. The number of graves is unknown but there is an information plaque.
