The monument to John Howie, author of “The Scots Worthies” a tribute to the
Covenanters and published around 1778(?).
Covenanters were pursued for their religious (Protestant) beliefs and those days are often referred to as “The Killing Times”. Many of the martyrs are named on the monument.
The farm next to it has a small but interesting museum though it's open at irregular times. Open-air traditional Covenanter church services (conventicles) are occasionally held here.
This is now in the south of the Whitelee Moor wind farm. Access is from the B764 about two miles east of the M77 J6 or four miles or so over the hill from Eaglesham.
