Monzie Church is just north of Gilmerton in Perthshire and is tucked away in a sheltered valley just north
of Crieff.
About a half mile north of the church is the highland fault line, the geological boundary between the lowlands (in this case Strathearn) and the highlands with the change of rocks, soil and vegetation. In the second photo you can see the church in among grassy green fields with the hilltops behind to the north covered in gorse, heather and bracken.
This version of the church was built in 1830-31 and has been extensively altered over the years. There's some really good stained glass from 1917 by William Morris & Co based on a design of Edward Burne-Jones and more by James Steel & Co added during a refurbishment in 1937.
The church once served a village of around two hundred souls but lately it's reduced to a monthly service on the first Sunday of each month as part of the Mid Strathearn Parish.
These photos were taken looking generally northwards. Monzie (pronounced money?) is an estate and castle with a history going back to medieval times and more recently has made some of the refurbished estate cottages available to rent for holidays and general tourism. Monzie Castle is the historic base for Clan Crichton.
The church is open by arrangement and is in regular use by the Church of Scotland.
