On the outskirts of Oban on the coast road to Ganavan Sands this castle is built on a rock outcrop high above the shore.

Almost like it was built on a platform. This version of the castle is said to have been built in the 10th century after several rebuilds from the 700s onwards.

The castle is open to visitors but you'll need your climbing legs to get up there.

Behind the castle there's a café gift shop and museum and the grounds have some rather nice woodland walks.
