sometimes known as Auchans Castle.

The two vertical views below show the house's location in respect firstly of Irvine
and the Firth of Clyde (inc. Arran) and secondly its proximity to Dundonald Castle,
a few hundred yards away on the flank of Dundonald Hill.
The building dates back originally to around the mid 1500s and was added to in the mid 1700s. Some reports suggest that the stone came from Dundonald Castle.
Ownership changed many times over the years and involved all the local major families (Montgomery, Wallace, Cochrane) at one time or another. The house is in private hands (Hillhouse Quarry?) and access is free.
Access on foot from Dundonald Castle is by way of a woodland path, you can see it winding past the house, and there's a footpath directly from the nearby A759.
