This monument is situated in a garden just to the north of Brig o'Doon. Entry is free and the gardens are maintained by the National Trust for Scotland.

Opened in 1823 and financed by public subscription the monument is in the form of a Grecian temple and the nine supporting pillars are said to represent the muses from Greek Myth.

The architect was Sir Thomas Hamilton. As well as the monument (which can be climbed internally to view the area from the cupola) there's a small building with various sculptures representing characters from Burns' poems.

There are also a number of roses in the gardens, presumably to help perpetuate the myth that Burns wrote “A Red Red Rose”.

Parking is limited, but free, and disabled access is viable to the gardens but not inside the monument. The entrance from the main road is a gentle slope and the other end has steps down towards the river.

Just east of the gardens is Ayr Rugby Club and the Brig o'Doon Hotel is across the road.
